Matrimony - Saint George Church in Erie, PA

Saint George Church offers the sacrament of Matrimony to parish members who meet the requirements. The Sacrament of Matrimony signifies the union of Christ and the Church. It gives spouses the grace to love each other with the love with which Christ has loved His Church. The grace of the Sacrament perfects the human love of the spouses, strengthens their indissoluble unity, and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life.

The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.

Couples from Saint George Church wishing to enter into the Sacrament of Marriage are to make arrangements through the parish priest at least six months before the Sacrament is to take place. The couple will enter into a Marriage Preparation with the priest, as well as participating in either an Engagement Encounter Weekend, or a Pre-Cana conference. Diocesan Common Policy requires six months advance notification and attendance at Pre-Cana Instruction.  Please contact the parish office to make arrangements.

"They are no longer two, therefore, but one flesh.
So then what God has united, human beings must not divide."
Mathew 19:6
