Holy Orders - Saint George Church in Erie, PASaint George Church offers the sacrament of Holy Orders to parish members. Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time, thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate. (1536 The Catechism of the Catholic Church)

Through the sacrament of Holy Orders, priests share in the universal dimensions of the mission that Christ entrusted to the apostles. The spiritual gift they have received in ordination prepares them, not for a limited and restricted mission, "but for the fullest, in fact the universal mission of salvation to the end of the earth," prepared in spirit to preach the Gospel everywhere.

"And having called His twelve disciples together,
He gave them power over unclean spirits,
to cast them out, and to heal all manner of diseases,
and all manner of infirmities."
Matthew 10:1
