Baptism at Saint George Church in Erie, PA

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism, we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God. We become members of Christ, and are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.

Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water and the Word. Baptism consists in immersing the candidate in water, or pouring water on the head, while pronouncing the invocation of the Most Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Baptisms of infants and young children are celebrated on Sundays at 1pm in the church. Parents must attend a pre-preparation session before the baptism can be celebrated. Appointments for the preparation session and baptism should be made within the parish office. Baptisms of adults are arranged through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

"Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration
through water in the word."
(1213 Catechism of the Catholic Church)
