Parent Information

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

Saint George Parish encourages parents to be involved in all aspects of their child's faith development.  Parental involvement is so important that the Document on Education from the Second Vatican Council states, “Parents must be acknowledged as the first and foremost educators of their children.  Their role as educators is so decisive that scarcely anything can compensate for their failure in it.”

CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Our aim is to best help all students, especially those with special needs.  In the event that mainstreaming is not possible, we will provide the textbook and information needed so that the parent may directly develop their child’s formation.

MASS ATTENDANCE & SACRAMENTAL PARTICIPATION

Religious Education does not take the place of mass.    It is our expectation that all children will attend weekly mass and participate in the sacraments.  The class setting is only a fraction of the learning experience.    To deny children attending mass is to deny them the fullness of the Church.

Children’s preparation for first reception of the Eucharist begins in the home.  The family has the most important role in communicating the Christian and human values that form the foundation for a child’s understanding of the Eucharist.  Children, who participate with their family in the Mass, experience the Eucharistic mystery in an initial way and gradually learn to join with the liturgical assembly in prayer.

REGISTRATION & FEES

Registration for Religious Education classes takes place in late summer.  All registered parishioners with school age children will receive the necessary forms by mail and additional forms are available in the Religious Education office or on the website.  New families are asked to fill out a Parish Census form and provide us with the child's baptismal certificate.
